Lake Norman Charter has three different campuses:

K–4 students attend Lake Norman Charter Elementary School.

Middle School Lake Norman Charter (Grades 5-8)

(Grades 9–12) Lake Norman Charter High School.

High academic standards and a focus on college preparation characterize Lake Norman Charter. This “One-to-One” school uses Schoology, an online system for class submissions and grades, and gives each high school student a laptop computer (instead of iPads for middle and primary school students). 16 AP courses are offered by Lake Norman Charter, and 82% of students enrolled in those courses succeed on the AP exam.

96% of the Class of 2017 enrolled in a post-secondary institution (78% in a 4-year university or college, and 18% in a 2-year college or technical school); 3% joined the military or took a gap year. The Class of 2017 included 26% students who attended institutions outside of North Carolina.

Applications for the Lake Norman Charter public school lottery for the 2023–2024 academic year opened on November 1 of 2022 and closed on January 31 of 2023.

Having received a “A” rating from the NC Department of Public Instruction each year since it started using that system to grade schools, LNC, which is in its 25th year of operation, is in the top 6% of all NC public schools.

On the basis of AP performance, academic competency, college preparedness, and graduation rates, US News & World Reports put us in the top 4% of high schools in the US (#725 out of 17,843).

Niche.com also placed LNC Elementary School in the top 1% of all elementary schools nationwide, LNC Middle School in the top 2% of all middle schools, and LNC High School in the top 4% of all national high schools.

On Huntersville’s Hambright Road is where you may find our elementary school. On Huntersville’s Old Statesville Road are our middle and high schools.

Attending has no costs or tuition. We offer a demanding college prep curriculum that equips our students for success in their preferred college and beyond.

LNC is a K–12 institution with 610 students enrolled in its elementary school, 800 in its middle school, and 800 in its high school.

A lottery is used to fill open spaces, as required by our charter from the State of North Carolina. Any applications submitted after the deadline for lottery applications on January 31 will be added to the end of the waitlist for the grade applied for on February 16, 2023, in the order in which they were received. After the 20th school day, new pupils will not be admitted and applications are not accepted.

Eligibility Requirements for Charter School

The child’s name, parent or guardian contact details, age, and grade may be requested by the charter school. To evaluate preferred eligibility if a lottery system will be utilized to choose candidates, more information may be needed.

Additional data may be collected as part of the enrolling process after the lottery process and after the student/family has accepted a placement offer. For kindergarten or first grade, this could involve age verification and confirmation of residency (for preference eligibility).

Documentation containing the parent or guardian’s name and address in the district, such as but not limited to any of the following, may serve as proof of residency:

• Receipt for paying property taxes
• Contract, lease, or payment receipt for rental property
• Contract, statement, or payment receipt for utility services
• A pay stub
• Registration to vote
• Government agency correspondence
• Parental or guardian signature on a statement of residency.

To confirm age, a number of papers can be used, including:

• a passport, a baptism certificate with the proper attestation, a certified copy of the birth record, or, in the event that none of the aforementioned are available,
• an affidavit from the parent, guardian, or
• custodian of the minor, or
• any other suitable way to demonstrate the child’s age as determined by the school district’s governing board.

Once registered, the charter school may ask for other details to help in planning the student’s education, like

• Transcripts
• Information on the ELPAC, CAASPP, SBAC, and other tests
• For children with disabilities, I.E.P.
• Health information and immunizations
• Codes 48204.1 and 48002 for education.

Lake Norman Charter School: Elementary Curriculum

Curriculum of North Carolina, is used by Lake Norman Charter. Teachers add creative techniques and more in-depth knowledge to the mandated state curriculum. Students in elementary school are taught literacy and math in separate time slots.

Through phonics and reading foundations, reading and listening comprehension, writing processes and composition, along with writing mechanics and grammar, literacy is taught using a balanced approach.
