About Federal University of Lafia
Fulafia is one of the nine new federal universities founded in Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in 2010 by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The school was established formerly as Federal University, Lafia, in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
In September 2012, the university opened for business, welcoming new students who comprised the initial group of learners under the tutelage of University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ekanem Ikpi Braide.
The school has since witnessed the appointments of Prof. Shehu Abdulrahaman as the third vice chancellor of Federal University, Lafia. He was appointed by the former president of Nigeria, Muhamad Buhari.
The appointment became effective on February 11, 2021, following the conclusion of Professor Muhammad Sanusi’s term.
Federal University of Lafia Location
The interim location of the university was moved to Obi road outside of Lafia City. Originally, the university was to be built along Jos road in Lafia metropolis, with plans to start operations utilizing the buildings of the College of Agriculture in Lafia.
The Nasarawa State Government donated 206 hectares of property along the Lafia-Markudi Road in Lafia, where the institution started moving to its permanent site in 2015.
Except for two faculties, the central administration and most faculty have successfully moved to the university’s permanent campus by 2018. For internal use, the university has an intranet.

For both new and returning students, the current tuition at the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa is ₦45,000.

FULAFIA Admission Requirements
All people are welcome to apply to Federal University Lafia, regardless of their race, tribe, creed, sex, or political beliefs. In addition to meeting all departmental and faculty requirements, prospective candidates must also meet the following general requirements:
Admission via the UTME
Candidates must receive a score of 180 or higher on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in addition to five (5) credit passes in appropriate courses from the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), GCE, NECO, or equivalent in no more than two sittings to be admitted to the 100 level.
For all student categories, the university will require credit passes in mathematics and English language.
