The University of Ibadan isn’t just the first university in Nigeria, it has been leading the way in many ways when it comes to academic achievements and has produced many notable people in today’s Nigeria.

As one of the best and biggest schools in the country, every year thousands of Nigerian students seeking academic admissions flock to the school, and while most people find what they seek, some others are not so lucky for several reasons.

One of the reasons is their inability to meet the school’s cut-off mark, a tragic situation that birthed our article UI jamb cut-off mark for all courses.

We will discuss not only the UI jamb cut-off mark for all courses but also the school’s cut-off mark as it applies to the 92 to academic departments.

Our article will also look at all the other requirements prospective students are expected to meet before they can get admitted into the prestigious University of Ibadan. Before we get into it all, let’s take a brief look at the school’s history.

About UI – The First and the Best

Established in 1948, the University of Ibadan, UI as it is fondly referred to, is the first University in Nigeria. Until 1962 when it became a full-fledged independent University, it was a College of the University of London in a special relationship scheme.

With its distinguished staff, rich history, and dedication to academic endeavors, the University of Ibadan (UI) is widely recognized as a symbol of academic achievement in Nigeria.

The University, which took off with academic programs in Arts, Science, and Medicine, is now a comprehensive citadel of learning with academic programs in seventeen Faculties.

This includes Arts, Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Agriculture, Social Sciences, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Technology, Law, Public Health, Dentistry, Economics, Renewable Natural Resources, Environmental Design and Management and Multidisciplinary Studies

What is UI Cut-Off Mark?

UI cut-off mark is the minimum score you must score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and post-UTME (if any) to be eligible for admission to study the course you have chosen.

What is the UI jamb cut-off mark for all courses 2024/2025?

The approved JAMB UI jamb cut-off mark for all course sessions is 200 and above.

However, it’s important to note that the cut-off mark is divided into three categories: merit, catchment, and ELDS.

Merit, catchment, and ELDS.

University Of Ibadan (UI) admission is divided into three categories:

Merit Admission

With a cut of mark of at least 200 you are eligible to apply for UI’s post-exam that takes you a step closer to your objective – UI admission.

Merit admission is offered to students who have met all requirements regardless of where they are from or where they reside. This means that they must have met the Jamb cut-off mark, the University of Ibadan cut-off mark, and their choice department cut-off mark to be accepted.

Catchment areas Admission

The catchment area of UI is the whole of Nigeria, however, 35% of admission slots are reserved for candidates from the catchment area – people within Oyo and its neighboring states.

Educationally Less Developed States (ELDs) Admission

These are states with poor academic achievements when compared to other states in the nation. These people are not really into school.

Therefore a special contention is made to encourage them and to help those who are willing to try to get admitted. They constitute 20% of the total admission each year as deemed fit by the school authorities.

All these stated, It’s important to note that UI does not exclude students from outside the catchment area.

Applicants from other states who meet the merit cut-off mark for their chosen degree course or program will be admitted, regardless of the catchment area.

Candidates from the catchment states who fail to meet the catchment cut-off mark (which can be lower than the merit cut-off) will not be admitted.

What Is the School Cut-Off Mark?

The term “school cut-off mark” refers to the score required by the specific institution to which a candidate is applying or hopes to be admitted to pursue a certain course of study. In this case that would be the cut-off mark for the University of Ibadan.

What Is Departmental Cut-Off Mark?

After meeting the school cut-off market, all candidates are also expected to meet their various departmental cut-off marks to be eligible for admission.

This is because each department has the autonomy to set its specific cut-off mark as the so pleases. However, some departments usually work with the general school cut-off mark, while others like medicine and surgery usually require more from their prospective candidates.

Importance Of Cut Off Marks

Cut-off mark helps streamline the admission process and give the most qualified candidates a better chance of admission. It also helps maintain equity and fairness in the admission process, which ultimately helps improve the quality of students the institution accommodates.

Other reasons why the cut-off mark is important include:

  1. It serves as a benchmark for selection
  2. It promotes fairness and transparency
  3. It ensures efficiency in admissions
  4. The cut-off mark ensures quality assurance

How UI Screening Score is Determined

  1. The number of applicants applying for admission this year will determine the cut-off mark.
  2. The availability of admission quotas in each department determines the cut-off point.
  3. Both JAMB and UI Post-UTME screening performances overall influence the cut-off marks.
  4. UI admission policy also plays a role in determining departmental cut-off marks.

Additional Information

  • If your JAMB score is below 200, you are ineligible for UI Post UTME screening.
  • Meeting JAMB and UI cut-off marks is necessary, but meeting additional requirements is also essential for admission consideration.
  • Highly competitive courses like Law, Medicine, and Nursing, among others, typically have higher cut-off points.

UI JAMB Cut-Off Mark For All Courses 2024/2025

The accepted JAMB cut-off mark for all courses offered in the University of Ibadan (UI) for the 2024/2025 academic session is set at 180 and above.

It should be noted that any candidate of JAMB who chased the University of Ibadan (UI) must pass the general JAMB mark of 180 to be on the safe side.

It’s also important to note that meeting the general UI jamb cut-off mark for all courses does not guarantee admission.

You might be required to meet even higher cut-off marks depending on the course you would like to study in the school.

UI Post UTME Cut-Off Mark For All Courses 2024/2025

The UI Post UTME cut-off Mark is pegged at 50% or above as the generally accepted score that an applicant should be at to qualify and be ready for the final stage of the admission process.

Candidates are to note that the above Mark of 50% will not be accepted for all courses/departments in UI as there are going to be variations among the courses — meaning some will be higher than the general percentage.
