The University of Ghana Legon
The University of Ghana Legon is the OG of Ghanaian universities. It was founded back in 1948, way before Ghana even became independent. It started off as an affiliate college of the University of London, teaching students in the Gold Coast, which is what Ghana was called back then.
After Ghana gained its independence in 1957, the college was renamed the University College of Ghana, and eventually became the University of Ghana in 1961.
That’s when it became a full-fledged university with its own degrees and everything.
The University of Ghana is located in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, and is situated on a beautiful, sprawling campus. Over 60,000 students are enrolled there!
It’s amazing how a school that started off as a small affiliate college has grown into a top-notch university that’s now a hub of learning and innovation in West Africa.
