What are the entry requirements for University of Ghana?

WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants

So, if you’re applying to the University of Ghana as a WASSCE/SSSCE applicant, you’ll need to meet the general entry requirements, which are:

At least credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies. A total aggregate not exceeding 30.

Now, depending on the specific program you’re applying to, the required subjects for calculating aggregates will vary.

Bachelor of Arts (BA): To apply for a Bachelor of Arts, you’ll need to have credits in:

Bachelor of Arts in Administration (BAA): You’ll need credits in:

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSc. IT): To apply for this program, you’ll need to have credits in:

• Integrated Science

And any three electives. That’s it for the WASSCE/SSSCE requirements.

Mature applicants

First things first, mature applicants must be at least 25 years old when they apply. But that’s not all.

You also need to take and pass the University of Ghana Access Course and Mature Students’ Entrance Examination, which is conducted by the university.

Once you’ve passed that exam, you can purchase an e-voucher from designated Banks to access the UG online application form.

The Access Course is run at Learning Centres in the 10 regional capitals of Ghana, so you’ll need to attend and complete the course at one of these centres.

If you successfully complete the Access Course and pass the entrance exam, you’ll be admitted into Level 100 (the first year) of either the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts in Administration programs.

Applicants In Possession of University of Ghana Diplomas or Recognized Equivalent

If you’re one of these applicants and you’ve got a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.00 or better, you can apply to the same area of study that your diploma was in, plus two other related subjects.

There are some additional requirements you’ll need to meet, depending on the program you’re applying for. Let’s look at Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as an example:

If you hold a Diploma in Nursing from a recognized university, you need to have a FGPA of 3.00 or better.

Additionally, you’ll need to have passes in at least three core subjects and two electives in appropriate subjects in your WASSCE/SSSCE, OR five credit passes (including English Language, Science and Mathematics) at the GCE ‘O’ Level and passes in two subjects at the GCE ‘A’ Level.

All diploma holders will be admitted to Level 200 (the second year) in the same subject area as their diploma qualification, meaning you can start your degree program at a higher level, based on your prior studies.

Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND)

If you’re one of these applicants and you’ve got a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.25 or better, you can apply to the same area of study as your HND, plus an additional related subject where required.

Similar to diploma holders, you’ll also need to meet certain requirements depending on the program you’re applying for.

The good news is that, if you successfully meet all the requirements and are admitted, you’ll be admitted directly into Level 200 (the second year) of the program, just like diploma holders.

If you’re a Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) holder, you’ll need:

1. Six passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
2. Three passes in subjects in General Arts, Business or Science.

If you’re a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) holder, you’ll need:

1. Six passes (A1-D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

What grade do you need to go to Legon?
