About Daystar University

Daystar University is a Christ-centered, non-denominational educational institution that equips Christian servant leaders to transform the church and society. It Publications was founded in 1964 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, before moving to Kenya in 1971 and becoming a non-profit corporation in 1973. It offers a five-week International Institute for Christian Communication (IICC) course.

It Communications began a two-year post-high school diploma program in Christian communications in 1976, followed by a two-year M. In 1978, a Christian Communication and Christian Ministries program was launched with Wheaton College in Illinois, USA.

In April 1984, Daystar launched a four-year B.A. degree program in collaboration with Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania, USA, and changed its name to Daystar University College. On September 29, 1994, Daystar was granted a Charter by the Government of Kenya and became Daystar University.

Since then, Daystar has been providing hotcake courses in Kenya and has continued to strengthen its academic offerings, research, and extension services to meet emerging societal needs.

Daystar University Fees Structure

Daystar University’s fee structure varies yearly due to country economy changes. However, it has made no significant modifications to the tuition fee. The medical expenses are KSh. 17, 227, and the cafeteria fees vary according to the service providers’ agreements.

The fee structure for Daystar University Kenya is as follows. There is presently no revised fee structure for the period, but the statistics below can be used as an estimate:

  • Undergraduate total fee per semester for 16 credit hours at both campuses.
  • Athi River campus is KSh. 5,650 per credit hour, and the Nairobi campus is KSh. 6,410 per credit hour.
  • The diploma tuition fee for 15 credit hours is KSh. 5100 per credit hour for communication while other courses are KSh. 3000 per credit hour.
  • Master’s degree program for 12 credit hours per semester is KSh. 7830 per credit hour.
  • Postgraduate Diploma programs are at KSh. 4000 per credit hour.
  • The nursing program tuition fee is KSh. 80,715 per semester.
  • Ph.D. program in Nairobi campus at KSh. 15,000 per credit hour.

Daystar University Admissions Requirements

Daystar admission forms can be obtained from either the Athi-River or Nairobi campuses. Once completed, the form is returned to the registrar’s office with a non-refundable KSh cost. 2,000. The application deadlines are November 30th, April 30th, and July 31st for the January, May, and August intakes. Other needed documents include:

  • Two recent passport size photos for Kenyan students and four for international students all having names at the back.
  • Secondary, post-secondary, university or college certificates.
  • Resume, official transcripts and degree certificate for graduate students.

Daystar University Admission Requirements for Each Course

Certificate

The minimum requirement for entry into Daystar Certificate courses is:

A KCSE mean grade of D+( plus), 3 Credits in IGCSE or its equivalence.

Diploma

The minimum admissions requirements for the Daystar diploma course is a KCSE mean grade of C-(minus), a mean grade of C plain, one principal pass in ‘A’ levels, or 4 credits or better in IGCSE, or their equivalent. Diploma in Communication: C- (minus) and C (simple English).

Undergraduate Programmes

  1. A mean grade of C+ (plus) or higher in KCSE, or at least 4 credits in IGCSE with at least two credit passes in A level/GCE.
  2. B.A. in Communication requires a minimum grade of C+ in English. Applicants with a B- in English who are admitted must take ENG 214. All undergraduate students with an English C+ or lower are expected to complete English 098.
  3. B.Sc Applied Computer Science applicants must have a minimum of C+ (plus) or equivalent in Mathematics and Physics.
  4. All foreign undergraduate students must have a Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) qualification letter and a certificate of good conduct.
  5. B.Sc Nursing applicants must have C+ Mathematics or Physics, Biological Sciences, and English grades. Candidates for the “A” Level must have two primary passes in Chemistry and Biology. Upgrade Diploma to B.ScN criteria include KCSE aggregate of C (plain) and KRCHN or KRN/M Diploma in Nursing, or KCE/EACE Division III and KRCHN or KRN/Diploma in Nursing, as well as NCK registration. Postgraduate Programmes

A Bachelor’s degree from an approved university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 4.0 or a degree with First Class or Upper Second Class Honours is required.

Applicants with a GPA of 2.5 or Lower Second Class Honours and a Higher Diploma with relevant experience may be eligible if their degree or diploma is pertinent to their field of study.

All global postgraduate students must receive a recognition and equivalence letter from the Commission for University Education (CUE) and a certificate of good conduct.
