About Takoradi Technical University
The government’s decision to upgrade Takoradi Polytechnic and five other polytechnics to the level of Technical University led to the establishment of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in September 2016. Actually, under the Ghana Education Service of the Ministry of Education, Takoradi Technical University (previously Takoradi Polytechnic) has been a Government Technical Institute since April 1954.
At the moment, TTU has campuses in Akatakyi, Butumagyebu, and Effiakuma.
In addition to engineering, business, applied sciences, and the humanities, TTU provides graduate and undergraduate degree programs in these and other subjects. Additionally, the institution provides several professional and certificate programs in fields like electrical engineering, plumbing, and welding.
The Faculty of Business and Management Studies, the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology, the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment, and the Faculty of Engineering are the five faculties that make up the university. The school offers courses under the Bachelor of Technology (4 years), Bachelor of Technology top-up programs (weekends), and HND programs.
Admission requirements for BTECH programs at Takoradi Technical University for candidates taking the SSSCE or WASSCE are A1–C6 in Integrated Science, Mathematics, and English Language. The minimum requirement for admission to BTECH 2-year top-up programs is an HND 2nd Class (Lower Division) certificate. Applications for HND programs are open to SSSCE/WASSCE candidates who have passed English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science with grades of A1–D7.

E. Pre-HND Access Programme
Students with a background in technology or vocational education can apply for TTU’s Pre-HND Access Programme. This is a one-year access course that covers science, math, and English language. The National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) administers the final test. Those whose applications are accepted can then go ahead to pursue a Higher National Diploma Program.

Equivalence of SSSCE Grades to WASSCE Grades
Takoradi Technical University employs the new WASSCE grading system to choose candidates. Under this system, a minimum aggregate of 36 is needed to be admitted to any program.

General Takoradi Technical University Admission Requirements
The following prerequisites must be met for you to be accepted into the school. Keep in mind that TTU cut-off points vary depending on the course you want to study.
- Certificate applicants should have at least four passes in relevant subjects and any other equivalent qualifications.
- Diploma prospective need passes in three core disciplines and one elective subject.
- Mature applicants should be above 25 years old and must have evidence of work experience.
- Degree candidates with a diploma or HND must possess at least a Second Class Lower Division in any related field.
- Masters aspirants should have a good first degree All the certificates must be from accredited institutions.
