Welch College is owned and operated by the National Association of Free Will Baptists and is governed by a board of trustees elected by that association. The college subscribes to the beliefs and practices set forth in the Free Will Baptist Treatise.

Brief Description

The college, founded in 1942, was formerly the Free Will Baptist College. It is a private four-year college in Gallatin, Tennessee, United States. Welch is of the mission to educate leaders to serve Christ, His church, and His world through Biblical thought and life.

The college is both regionally and nationally accredited and is a member of the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

Welch college serves 285 students (2017 data) in its Gallatin area at 1045 Bison Trail campus in Nashville, Tennessee. This campus provides for the increased enrollment, meets the needs of the physical challenged, and provide space for student recreation and athletic activities. Most students are required to live on campus.

Welch college has a student-faculty ratio of 9:1, which provides a challenging curriculum and a stimulating learning environment that is consistently ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of “America’s Best Colleges.”

With more than 40 programs of study,Welch College offers opportunities to learn and grow in oversees experiences – church, business, education, government, healthcare internships and involvement in various study groups will enhance student’s academic experience. Welch’s programs challenge the students with academic excellence.

The Undergraduate programs include: Arts and Sciences, Music, Teacher Education, and Theological Studies. Two-and three-year associate degree and programs as well as a Masters of Art in Theology are also offered.

The college maintains a strong core in Biblical and Theological studies, and around one-third of the students major in programs that lead to full-time church vocations. The college Teacher’s Education Program produces teachers for public and private schools and Welch also produces Business Department graduates.

The school is consistently expanding its Enriched Adult Studies program and distance learning programs.

The following basic costs are listed in the current edition of the Welch College Catalog and will give prospective students a good indication of what it costs to attend Welch College.

The cost in 2018-19 for the average Welch College dormitory student taking 12-18 hours will be $13,160.00 per semester.

Scholarships and Aid

Welch College is committed to helping every student pay for their education and to graduate with a minimum of debt. In 2018, approximately 90% of Welch College students received some form of financial aid. Scholarships ranging from $200 to $10,000 are available.

Scholarships are awarded to those who are admitted to Welch College. The sooner the student apply for admission, the sooner the school can award the student scholarship!

  1. Merit Scholarships

  • Presidential Honors Scholarship: This scholarship is available to students with ACT score of 31-36 and SAT score of 1420 and above. The value of the scholarship is $10,000.
  • Provost’s Honors: This scholarship is available to students with ACT score of 28-30 and SAT score of 1310-1410. The value of the scholarship is $8,000.
  • Academic Honors: This scholarship is available to students with ACT score of 25-27 and SAT score of 1200-1300. The value of the scholarship is $4,000.
  • Leadership Award: This scholarship is available to students with ACT score of 21-24 and SAT score of 1060-1190. The value of the scholarship is $2,500.

The above scholarships are applicable to first time in college students only. The eligibility of transfer students is by GPA. The following award amount are available to Transfer students.

  • For GPA of 3.6 and up, the award value is $6,000.
  • For GPA of 3.1 to 3.59, the award value is $4,000.
  • For GPA of 2.6 to 3.0, the award value is $2,000.

Note also that the above list of GPA scholarships is applicable to new transfer students only.

  1. Legacy Award 

    This $2,500 per year award is available to students whose fathers are the primary pastors of a Free Will Baptist church, full-time Free Will Baptist International and North American Missionaries. Eligible students must also meet the following criteria: live at home with parents who provide at least half of the students’ support; are under 24 years of age-plan to live in one of Welch College’s dormitories-plan to register for a minimum of 12 hours per semester.

  2. Spouse Scholarship 

    This is available to the wife or husband of a full-time student (taking 12 hours or more at full tuition). He or she may register at half tuition for up to an equal number of hours.

  3. Tippett Alumni Scholarship 

    The Bert and Dianne Tippett Alumni Scholarship is awarded each year to a child or grandchild of a Welch College Alumnus. Applications and reference forms are due for submission May 31. Apply here: https://welch.edu/alumni/alumni-scholarship/

  4. Endowed Scholarships

Scholarships are available from donors in amounts ranging from $100 to $2,000 per year. These scholarships are granted to students selected by the College administration. The selection criteria for recipients are: Need, academic achievement, and character. The following is a list of Endowment Scholarships. It should be noted that not all the scholarships are funded each year.

APPLYING FOR WELCH SCHOLARSHIPS AND AID

In order to be eligible for a Welch College scholarship, student must:

  • Apply for Federal Aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This should be completed and submitted before the May 15 priority date. Visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to complete and submit the FAFSA.
  • Enrol in at least 12 credit hours.

For New Students

  • Have a completed application file in the Enrolment Management Office no later than May 15. This includes reference forms, a health form, application fee, a high school transcript showing grades received up to the time of application, ACT or SAT score, room deposit, personal testimony form, etc.
  • Complete the scholarship application. Incomplete scholarship applications will be discarded.

The form must be submitted and completed before May 15 to receive maximum consideration for any Welch College scholarship.
