The Vodacom Bursary scheme allows South African students to have access to full time bursary to enable them pursue their academic dreams in any Field of study at any  accredited tertiary institution in South Africa. Since the Bursary scheme was established, over 1000 bursaries have been awarded so far.

Vodacom provides coverage to Mount Kilimanjaro, which used to make it the highest point in the world to be covered by GSM. It no longer is, as TeliaSonera now provides coverage at the top of Mount Everest, the highest point in the world. Vodacom was aided by its optimistic advertisements at the early stages of the democratic South Africa, this includes the yebo gogo campaign which is still in effect today in South Africa. Vodacom is the leading cellular network in South Africa with an estimated market share of 58% and more than 23 million customers.


Vodacom is committed to addressing the ICT skills shortage in South Africa. To address this need, They have provided fifty students with bursaries annually to study in fields in which there are skills shortages. Top-achieving students from disadvantaged communities are chosen to study in the ICT and engineering sectors.

Bursary amounts vary and are limited.  They take into consideration the student’s academic merit, in addition to their financial needs.  Bursaries are awarded for a period of one year, but it is renewable.  Vodacom bursaries are for students at any of the South African Recognized Universities.  After completion of each study year, candidates will be asked to work for Vodacom, depending on vacancies, one year correspondingly.

This is a full bursary program that covers all the expenses a student will ever encounter during their study period, there is also adequate provision for students to take part in vacation works and industrial trainings each year.

Students on graduation maybe maybe required to enroll for the graduate development talent which on the long run provides such students with the opportunity for an employment at vodacom.

This program is for South Africans students 



This Bursary covers tuition, books, residence and a yearly cash allowance, though the amount varies and bursaries are limited,the award is solely on financial need and academic merit. Offered for a period of one year and it is also renewable


Applicants need to meet the following requirements:

  • be a South African citizen
  • undertake full-time undergraduate studies in a South African tertiary institution
  • pass Grade 12 with exemption
  • obtain a minimum “B” symbol in both Mathematics and Science Higher Grade
  • be younger than 25 years
  • applicants may apply if already first year (or higher) of studies in an accredited South African tertiary institution and meet all criteria above
  • The total household income of candidates may not exceed R150 000 per year, to be eligible
  • Candidates who are within their first year of study at such Institutes may also apply, only if they meet all other criteria as mentioned above

  • Grade 11 final results (current Matric students)
  • Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
  • Proof of admission into a tertiary institution
  • Full academic record to date (current tertiary students)
