University of Waikato Dr Zena Daysh PhD Fellowship in New Zealand, 2017



Applications are invited at the University of Waikato  for Dr Zena Daysh Fellowship in Sustainable Development available to Domestic or International students. The Scholarship is available to pursue postgraduate research programme.

The Dr Zena Daysh Fellowship provides funds for a student with a research interest in a field relevant to sustainable development, to undertake a doctoral degree at the University of Waikato.

The University of Waikato (M?ori: Te Whare W?nanga o Waikato), informally Waikato University, is a comprehensive university in Hamilton, New Zealand, with a satellite campus located in Tauranga. The University of Waikato was the first university in New Zealand to be designed from a blank canvas.

Course Level: The Fellowship is available to pursue postgraduate (research) programme.

Study Subject: The Fellowship will be awarded in any subjects offered by the university.

Scholarship Award: The Fellowship will be cover up to $22,000 pa, plus domestic tuition fees, for up to three years.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

For students enrolling or intending to enrol in a PhD at the University of Waikato with a research interest in a field relevant to sustainable development. Candidates may come from a range of academic disciplines, provided their research aligns with Dr Zena Daysh’s mission to promote a holistic, integrative, and sustainable approach to development.

Nationality: Domestic or International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have their previous degree.

English language Requirements: students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English the candidate should have a very good command over the English language.


How to Apply: Along with the prescribed application form, each applicant must submit:

a) a personal statement (using the template provided), which includes the following


  • Proposed research which emphasizes its relevance to sustainability
  • Timeline showing the start of doctoral enrollment, anticipated milestones, and
  • the expected completion date
  • Previous studies and/or research of relevance to sustainability
  • Previous employment of relevance to sustainability
  • Past attendance/presentation at seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Future career plans
