Top 21 Masters Scholarships for Political science Students

There are a number of international scholarships that allow Master’s students to study political science at any country of their choice. These scholarships are funded by global and regional organizations, with a possibility of distance learning opportunities.


  1. Study Abroad with Singapore Management University, Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship (OPF) in 2019

The Singapore Management University is seeking applications from Singaporean citizens who wish to study at an overseas university for one year.

Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship (OPF) aims at providing political doctoral candidates, about to complete or haven recently completed their studies, with an opportunity to engage in advanced training or research at an overseas university for one year. On an exception basis, a two-year programme may be supported.

The Fellowship will provide the following scholarship benefits; Monthly stipend, Overseas maintenance allowance, Return economy airfare, Conference and fieldwork grants, Overseas medical insurance and each Fellow will be assigned a SMU faculty mentor throughout their post-doctoral training and have opportunities to participate in faculty development programmes.

Interested candidates are required to complete and submit the Overseas Post-doctoral Fellowship Application Form.

Though applications may be submitted throughout the year, candidates are advised to submit theirs at least nine months prior to the intended commencement date of the post-doctoral training.


  1. Italy Sant’Anna Master Scholarships in Human Rights and Conflict Management 2018

The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, a public university institute is launching the XVI edition of the Limited numbers of Master degree Scholarships in Human Rights and Conflict Management, which is designed to provide EU and Non-EU students with a deep understanding on the relationship between human rights and conflict management practices. Applicants are to enter their application online, at www.humanrights.santannapisa.it, and follow the procedure described in the section “Application Process” in order to access the online application form. In case of failure of the online application system, applicants may contact the Master Secretariat via email to humanrights@santannapisa.it, to receive assistance.

The 1st round deadline is July 3, 2018 and the 2nd round deadline is September 18, 2018


  1. Holland Scholarship for Non-EEA International Students

The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

The scholarship amounts to €5,000, the grant is awarded for one year and can only be received once. Applicants must have never before studied at an education institution in the Netherlands and must apply for the Holland Scholarship directly to the participating institution of their choice.

This scholarship is eligible to master’s degree students at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions.

And applicants must meet the specific requirements of the institution of their choice, found on the individual website of the institution.

  1. Eric Bleumink Scholarships at University of Groningen

The Eric Bleumink Fund awards scholarships to talented research students from developing countries.  The scholarships includes a 1 year or 2 years Master’s degree  (MSc/MA/LL.M.) offered at University of Groningen in Netherlands.

  1. Utrecht Excellence Scholarships for International Students

The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers prospective students the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in political science at Utrecht University, Netherlands.

The Utrecht Excellence scholarship open to Non-EU/EEA International Students and is awarded as tuition fees plus 11.000 euro living expenses.

The scholarship is awarded for one or two years, depending on the degree programme and will only be renewed for the second year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

Prospective students who wish to be considered for the scholarship must apply before 1 December or latest 1 February.

  1. Maastricht University Holland High Potential Scholarships for International Students

The Holland High Potential Scholarship is open to students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) who wish to do a master’s or a professional education programme at Maastricht University.

The High Potential scholarship is awarded for the duration of 13 months for a one-year master’s programme and 25 months for a two-year master’s programme.

It covers the students’ living expenses (€12,350 – 13 months; €23,750 – 25 months), health and liability insurance (€710), visa application costs (€317), tuition fee (€13,000, €15,000 or €17,500, depending on the tuition of your study programme), and pre-academic training costs (€825).

To apply for the scholarship, applicants have to register for one of the participating Master’s Programme (MA) at Maastricht University.

All application are to he submitted via Studielink and on submission, a student ID number which will be needed to complete the Scholarship Application Form will be issued.

  1. Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS)

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding  Non-EU/EEA students wishing to enroll in a full-time master’s degree programme at Leiden University. Masters programmes (with the exception of regular LLM programmes) in the the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs is also offered.

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme gives out 3 awards including; € 10.000 of the tuition fee, € 15.000 of the tuition fee and Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee.

Applicants have to apply online for admissions to a Master’s programme at Leiden University and indicate clearly that they are interested in the LExS scholarship.

The deadline for programmes starting in February is 1 October 2018, while programmes starting in September have a deadline of 1 February 2018.

The American Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) provides more than $500,000 annually to assist Scandinavian students undertaking graduate study or research programs in the United States for a variety of different fields of study, including political science.

Applicants for the Awards for Advanced Study or Research in the USA must be birth citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden to be considered and the interested candidates must be recommended to ASF from one of the cooperating organizations, including the Denmark-America Foundation, the League of Finnish-American Societies, or the Sweden-America Foundation.

The Graduate Degree Fellowship Scholarships offer funding for a maximum of 24 months to pursue a master’s degree of study at the EWC of the University of Hawaii.

Eligible applicants must be citizens countries in USA, Asia or in the Pacific. Scholarship candidates outside the United States must complete the required Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Each year, the Institute of International Education is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State to award 1,800 grants to non-U.S. students in the Foreign Fulbright Student Program to study in the United States for a master’s degree in any field of choice including political science.

The Graduate Scholarship is offered to international students from World Bank member countries.

Eligible applicants for the scholarship must be under 30 years of age, have a bachelor’s degree, possess at least two years of professional full-time experience after a university degree, and submit evidence of current unconditional admission to a university in the United States to pursue a master’s degree in political science.

NCITD awards the International Trade Scholarship to students pursuing a graduate degree program in political science among other related fields of study.

Eligible students must be at least a junior at an accredited U.S. university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and submit a 2,500-word essay explaining the reasons why they should be considered, an official transcript, and a letter of recommendation.

This scholarship is offered to new Americans for full funding of up to two years of graduate program studies to achieve leadership in any chosen field, including political science.

The International Peace Scholarship Fund is a program that provides scholarships for outstanding women around the world to attend graduate studies within the United States or Canada.

Each year, the Aga Khan Development Network grants a limited number of scholarships for outstanding students from developing countries to achieve a master’s degree in any subject of their choice, including political science.

Applicants under 30 years of age from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Kyrgystan, Kenya, Egypt, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, Mozambique, France, and Portugal stand a higher chance of getting this selected.

Scholarships are awarded to students with exceptional academic standings, genuine financial need on a 50 percent grant and 50 percent loan basis, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5 percent.

The Aga Khan Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. Generally, the students are allowed to choose a reputable University of their choice except universities in UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Ireland.

Central European University is a graduate-level “crossroads” university where students from more than 100 countries come to engage in interdisciplinary education and pursue advanced scholarship in political science and other related fields of study.
