Need to knows about Zambia Study Permits

  • Zambia study permits are only available where the learner has been accepted for a study course at an accredited learning institution. To be accredited the learning institution must be registered with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
  • The study permit application must be made by the student prior to entering Zambia and the student must be in possession of it before unless the applicant for the study permit is an ordinary resident of Zambia or an asylum seeker.
    Zambia Study permits are required for foreign students

    International students require a study permit to study in Zambia

  • The educational institution at which the student has been accepted must issue the Director General of Immigration with a certificate. This certificate states the learning institution has been provided with guarantees as to the study permit applicant’s payment of course fees and also the means to support themselves during the duration of the course.
  • The educational institution shall notify the Director General of Immigration when the student has completed their studies and surrender any Zambia study permits to the  Director General of Immigration.
  • A Zambia study permit is specific to the learning institution.
  • The holder of a study permit may enter, re enter and remain in Zambia for the validity period of the study permit.
  • Zambia study permit holders may not engage, for gain, in any activity, business, trade, employment, profession or any other activity not specified in the permit.
  • A study permit can be extended at the Director General of Immigrations discretion by submission of the current permit, applicable fees, appropriate application form and letter from the learning institution.

Zambia study permit requirements

  • Complete application form 20;
  • Submit two recent passport size photographs;
  • Submit a police clearance certificate from the study permit applicant’s country of permanent residence if over 18;
  • A photocopy of the current passport;
  • The acceptance letter from the registered learning institution the student wishes to study at;
  • The status of the host, parent or guardian if any;
  • Chest X-Ray report;
  • A cover letter to Chief Immigration Officer.
