Scholar Athlete Awards

Few years ago it would have been very difficult to convince anybody that being involved in athletic activities or any related sports activity could land you a scholarship.

Really things has evolved in all dimensions of life,  including the academic world. These days being involved in academic related sports activities.

And being involved in social activities and dispositions of leadership qualities,  or having a trace of organisation skills can expose you to certain number of opportunities including scholarship opportunities, on the basis that most scholarship platforms are now looking beyond academic excellence when it comes to eligibility, they  now focus on threats, or passion which an individual possesses as criteria for scholarship award.

Scholar Athletic Awards is one of the scholarship awards that is not really academic excellence dependent, but also dependent on how well and a mast and individual is when it comes to athletics.

The scholar athlete scholarship has a variety of sponsoring platforms, and that is one of the reasons application criteria eligibility requirements fluctuates,  that is, it varies annually.

A person might be qualified for the scholarship the previous year but won’t be qualified for this year’s scholarship opportunity because of its constant change in electricity requirements.

The Scholar Athlete Awards have been an annual Columbus Dispatch initiative for more than 20 years and in that time more than $1 million in scholarships have been awarded to elite graduating seniors.

This June 6th will mark our third-annual LIVE recognition event for these Scholar Athletes and the community.

 MHSAA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD

For the first time, all steps of the Scholar Athlete Awards process will be online without any paperwork.

Students will fill out the entire application online, including athletic and other extra-curricular experiences, short-answer questions and essays. Students have the choice of uploading letters of recommendation or letting recommenders upload themselves. Finally, our judges will also be reviewing and scoring applications online.

Otherwise, the Scholar-Athlete Award program is the same as in past years. We ask for the same background info, short-answer questions and essays, and we score applications using the same point system as in past years.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Eligibility criteria has not changed from previous years. Seniors with an unrounded 3.50 or better GPA who have earned a varsity letter in an MHSAA-sponsored sport are eligible to apply.

Just like in past years, you can have more students go through the application process. After the deadline and prior to judging, we will look at the list of completed applications and search for schools which have more applicants than allowed.

We will contact the athletic director and ask him/her which applications we should consider for the award. ALL applicants, even those who are not considered for the award, will be recognized with a certificate.

HOW DO STUDENTS APPLY?

Direct students to mhsaa.com/scholarship to start the application process.
