PhD Position in Computational Astrophysics at NCAC in Poland, 2017


Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center Polish Academy of Sciences is seeking able applicants for the PhD Position in Computational Astrophysics. The position is exclusively open to the nationals of Poland.

The aim of the position is to provide an opportunity for researchers to enhance their research ability.

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center Polish Academy of Sciences is a leading astronomical institute in Poland. The main subjects of research include: stellar astrophysics, binary systems, circumstellar matter, dense matter and neutron stars, black holes, accretion processes, structure and evolution of active galaxies, cosmology, extrasolar planets.

Course Level:  The position is available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: The position is awarded in astrophysics.

Scholarship Award: The position will cover the following:

  • The research scholarship is connected with the OPUS project “Structure and evolution of ultra-luminous astrophysical X-ray sources” (2015/19/B/ST9/01099), financed by the Polish National Science Centre and led by professors Jean-Pierre Lasota and Krzysztof Belczy?ski and provided for up to 4-years.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Candidates should hold (or expect to obtain before the start of their scholarship) a university degree (master or equivalent) in the field of astrophysics, astronomy or physics. Knowledge of numerical methods and programming in C, C++, and Python (or any equivalent) will be preferred.

Nationality: Polish applicants are eligible for the position.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have master’s or equivalent degree.
