Novo Nordisk Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship to Study Abroad, 2017


Postdoctoral fellowship within Endocrinology/Metabolism enables young researchers from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Iceland or Norway to pursue research at elite institutions abroad for the academic session of 2017.

The aim of the fellowship is to give an opportunity to young researchers to carry out a research project where a minimum of 3 years are dedicated to working at a university, hospital or other research institution abroad, followed by up to 1 year at a university, hospital or other research institution in a Nordic country.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation is an independent Danish foundation with corporate interests. The objective of the Novo Nordisk Foundation is twofold: To provide a stable basis for the commercial and research activities conducted by the companies within the Novo Group and to support scientific and humanitarian purposes.

Course Level: These fellowships are available to pursue the postdoctoral programme.

Study Subject: These fellowships are awarded in the subjects of endocrinology and metabolism

Scholarship Award: The total duration of the fellowship is 4 years. The Novo Nordisk Foundation awards up to DKK 1 million per year for a total of up to DKK 4 million per fellowship. Up to six fellowships will be funded in 2017.

Numbers of Scholarships: Up to six fellowships are available.

Scholarship can be taken in Elite Institutions Abroad

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following area for the scholarship:

  • The applicant must be employed by a research institution in a Nordic country (Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Iceland or Norway) for the entire fellowship period and the Nordic institution must administer the fellowship grant.
  • The successful candidate:
  • Has obtained a PhD degree within 5 years of the fellowship start date
  • Can apply as a PhD-student if the supervisor signs a declaration stating that the applicant is expected to graduate before the start date of the fellowship
  • Has been accepted as an employee at a Nordic university, hospital or other research institution throughout the course of the fellowship program, and has obtained support from the foreign research institution
  • Will spend at least 3 years abroad, followed by up to 1 year in a Nordic research institution
  • has a master or a PhD degree from a Nordic University or similar ties to a Nordic country

Nationality: Applicants of Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Iceland or Norway can apply for the fellowship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a PhD degree.

English Language Requirement: Applicants need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
