ABOUT MAIZE TRUST
The Maize Trust, established in 1998, was formed following the Maize Board closing, with the most important goal of promoting the maize industry of South Africa.
The Trust provides the maize industry with financial support, to organizations and institutions who run market and production related search programmes.
The Trust also provides funding assimilation and circulation of market information, as well as to increase market access for the maize industry’s benefit.

What you need to know about MAIZE TRUST BURSARY
LEVEL/ FIELDS COVERED
The Maize Trust will be awarding bursaries within fields related to the Agricultural sector and to the South African maize industry. Bursaries will be awarded specifically within the following fields of study (Masters and Doctoral studies only):
- Agricultural Economics
- Agricultural Meteorology
- Agricultural Engineering
- Plant Breeding
- Plant Physiology
- Plant Biochemistry
- Plant Pathology
- Plant Entomology
- Plant Nematology
- Pasture Science
- Food Sciences (relevant to the crop industry)
- Livestock Science
- Weed Science
- Soil Science
- Soil Microbiology
- Molecular Biology
This Scholarship is to be taken in SOUTH AFRICA. If you are an international student and you wish to study in the UK, this is for you Complete Guide to Getting A UK Tier 4 Student Visa For International Students.
The Bursary is open to all South African students to study in any of the country university. Read also if you wish to study outside your home country Simple and Detailed Answers about Applying and Winning a Scholarship.
Bursaries will be awarded to the value of R78 334 per annum for MSc students (for 2 years) and R94 817 per-annum for both PhD students (for 3 years ). Bursary funding must be used to offset the price of tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, living expenses as well as other study materials.
Once students have graduated, they must work within the maize industry of South Africa, for a length of time corresponding to the bursary received.
MAIZE TRUST BURSARY APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should meet the following minimal entrance standards before applying (please notice that failure to meet each of the requirements will result to your application not being considered):
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Studying full time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (MSc or PhD only)
- Studying at a recognized University in South Africa
- Intend on conducting a thesis on a topic that has been approved by the Maize Trust
- Willing to work within the South African maize industry after completing your studies
- Have read and agreed to all terms of the Maize Trust Bursary Scheme Agreement (.pdf)

Submit clear copies of these supporting documentation together with your completed application Form (the submission of these documents is mandatory — if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
- ID document (certified copy of)
- Matric certificate (certified copy of)
- Other qualification certificates (certified copy of)
- Full tertiary academic record
- Curriculum Vitae
- Summary/ short description of your intended thesis
