Since 1983, the Lyford Cay Foundation have worked with more than 2,650 Bahamian students up to their university education level.
Lyford also offered great scholarships to qualified applicants for study internationally, either in technical and vocational fields, or at the undergraduate or masters level, and nationally at University of The Bahamas.

What You Need To Know About Lyford Cay Foundation Scholarship
Nationally With a deep commitment to support our national institutions, we offer partial need-based scholarships for students to attend University of The Bahamas full-time.
Selection and administration of the awards are managed by The University. Applications are available from the University’s financial aid office.
Internationally , Lyford offer partial scholarships to obtain degrees at these levels:
Scholarship season is once per year beginning in January.
Here Students choose their own institution and field of study, and apply at any time, whether as a new freshman or a junior in college. It is highly competitive.
The nine criteria weigh financial need, academic merit, field of study, reputation of intuition, career goal, availability of programme in The Bahamas, financial capacity, and personal qualities. There are no age restrictions.

The Lyford scholarship is open to both citizens of Bahamas and international students who wish to study in the country.
AS long as the lyford scholarship is concern there are criteria that determine if a student is eligible to either apply or benefit from the foundation.

Family Education Background
Advantage is given to students who are first generation (neither parent has completed college).
GPA (Grade Point Average )and other academic information as well as work experience and proficiency in the intended area of study.
Field of Study
Examples of majors and career areas of national need:
Matches employment opportunities in The Bahamas in major sectors of economic activity or sectors experiencing growth; labour market shortages are well documented in a particular field.
Availability of Programme at The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute
BTVI offers strong technical and vocational programmes and as such, we prioritise scholarships for candidates who are not able study in their chosen field at BTVI
The college or university that the candidate plans to attend is accredited.
The resources available to the candidate to support his or her studies.
The candidate’s plan to secure additional funding beyond a Foundation scholarship.
Candidates Personal Qualities
Personal essays are assessed along with the candidates overall character.
In addition to the general technical awards, students may also be eligible for one of the below awards depending on their field of study and other criteria.
Bahamas Billfish ChampionshipScholarship
- Two scholarships awarded annually worth up to US$15,000 per year
- One undergraduate scholarship in marine and environmental biology
- One technical training and vocational scholarship in marine mechanics
Solmssen Templeton Scholarship
- One scholarship awarded annually, valued up to US$10,000 per year.
- For a Certificate, Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Court Reporting or Court Stenography
TK Foundation Technical Scholarships
- Awarded annually, valued up to $15,000 per year.
LYFORD SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY
- All applicants must be a Bahamian citizen.
- All applicants must be studying outside of The Bahamas.
- All applicants must have at least one academic year remaining, which is the equivalent of two full semesters.
Minimum GPA requirements:
Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or
Cumulative graduate GPA of 3.5 if currently enrolled in graduate studies.
Career goal stipulations:
Students are not eligible if his/her career plan is medicine and is currently enrolled or preparing to be enrolled in Medical School.
HOW TO APPLY FOR LYFORD SCHOLARSHIP :
Stage 1 (open to all eligible students)
Deadline: March 19th
Complete the application form.
Students will be evaluated and successful applicants will be invited to continue through the process.
Applicants will receive a notification of application status via email 24 hours after submission.
Stage 2 (by invitation only)
Deadline: Communicated through email.
Students will be asked to provide documentation of the details in their completed application form from stage 1, as well as, additional supplemental information.
Documents required to be uploaded:
- Passport copy
- Copy of transcript as at December term/most recent
- Letter of acceptance
- Financial Information (i.e. job letter, confirmation of self-employed income etc.)
All applicants will be notified in June on whether or not they were submitted to the screening committee for consideration.
Stage 3 (Top 25% of applicants)
Students who are forwarded to the screening committee for consideration of an award will be asked to provide references. Student may also be invited to interview.
Final decisions on scholarship recipients will be communicated in early July.
LYFORD SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE
Scholarships Application 2018 is now closed. For those individuals who have completed and submitted Stage 2 of their application, please expect to receive notification of application status by the end of June 2018.
Stage ONE of our application will open again in February 2019 for candidates to be considered for a scholarship to be awarded in Fall 2019.
