Low Tuition Universities in Austria
If your desire is to study abroad but you are hampered by finance, why not make up your mind to study in countries where the tuition fees are low and affordable. In many European countries, tuition fees in universities, colleges, and other higher institutions range from 1000 Euros to 5000 Euros per year for international students.
Some of these countries include; Austria, Russia, Poland, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Germany, etc. I have written lots of articles on low tuition universities in Europe and you can find that at the archive section of this site.
Today, I will be focusing on another country one can pursue his/her studies and pay little for tuition fees, and that country is Austria.
Austria is a beautiful European country that borders other countries like Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, and Switzerland. Vienna which is its capital is home to the Schonbrunn and Hofburg palaces and has counted Mozart, Strauss and Sigmund Freud among its residents.
The tuition fees in Austrian public universities are quite low and affordable. A non-EU or international student can pay as low as 1500 Euros to 3000 Euros per year for tuition fees. In addition to the tuition fees, there is also a compulsory fee of 18 Euros which is paid to student Union every semester.
Now that we’ve known the tuition fees students must pay in Austria, let’s take a look at the cost of living in this beautiful country as a student.
Cost of living in Austria
Though Austria is considered one of the richest countries in Europe, the cost of living is not so high compared with some European countries.
A budget of 800 Euro to 1000 Euro can take care of expenses such as feeding, accommodation, transportation, buying of books, etc for one month.
Note that this figure is just estimation, cost of living could be lower or higher depending on factors like the spending habit of students, accommodation choice and the city where the student resides.
Here’s a breakdown of the living expenses in Austria:
Accommodation – 250 to 350 Euros per month
Food (excluding luxuries and tobacco) – 250 Euros per month
Studies and personal requirements (books, culture, recreation) – 290 Euros per month
If you want to study in Austria, you must first contact the University of your Choice, find out the programs they offer and the requirements. For the undergraduate program, the applicant should be in possession of a high school/secondary school certificate with good grades in relevant subjects.
For the postgraduate program, a minimum of a good bachelors degree certificate is usually required.
In addition, applicants will need to prove their proficiency in the language of instruction of their program.
Universities in Austria teach in English, German languages or a combination of the two. However, you must provide a language proficiency certificate for the program you are applying for.
Application times and deadlines
When applying for admission into any university in Austria, it’s important that you apply early enough. Please adhere to the following application times when sending your admission applications;
- September 1: submit your application before September 1 for studies in the winter semester.
- February 1: for studies in the summer semester.
How to apply for admission in AUSTRIA
The first step is for an applicant to get his/her certificates legalized at the Austrian embassy in his/her country. Once this has been done, the next step is to submit an online application to the university and forward the legalized documents to them.
The admission unit of the university will go through the application and will issue an offer letter if the students meet the minimum entry requirement for the program.
