The National Academic of Science Engineering Medicine is glad to offer the Jefferson Science Fellowship Program. This program is exclusively available for scientist, technologist, engineer, or physician. Only U.S. citizens may apply this fellowship. Interesting salary and travel cost will be given to the winning fellows. The application deadline is October 31, 2017.

Fellowship Description
Recognizing that knowledge of state-of-the-art science, technology, and engineering (STE) is essential to the formulation and implementation of U.S. government policy, The Secretary of State announced the Jefferson Science Fellowship (JSF) program that is administered by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The JSF Program is open to tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens. The fellowship awards play an important role in the career development of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and scholars for the academic, federal, industrial and international workforce.

Award Value
Fellows are paid a per diem of up to $50,000 to cover local living expenses (if relocating to Washington, D.C.) and an additional $10,000 is awarded for travel associated with their assignments at the U.S. Department of State or USAID.

Non – degree program in the field of science, technology and medical.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Must be a scientist, technologist, engineer, or physician holding a tenured or similarly ranked academic appointment at a U.S. college or university
  • If awarded, the candidate must successfully complete and maintain security clearances at the U.S. Department of State/USAID
  • Applicant’s academic institution must sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Academy of Sciences in order to be considered as a finalist
  • Stature, recognition, and experience in the national and international scientific, technical or engineering community.
  • Ability to rapidly and accurately understand scientific advancements outside his or her discipline area and to effectively integrate this knowledge into international policy discussions.
  • Ability to identify and articulate relevant science and technology issues to non-specialist audiences.
  • Interests and experiences that are applicable to informing or advancing policy discussions and processes at the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Agency for International Development.
  • Those individuals offered Jefferson Science Fellowships must successfully complete and maintain security clearances required for them to undertake their duties within the U.S. Department of State or USAID.
