Like many colleges, Howard University offers a variety of scholarships to attract students. To qualify for many of these scholarships, students must complete a FAFSA application. This app will tell you quickly whether you qualify for government or state funding to support your education.

As many Howard University fellowships close the gap between the actual cost of participation and your current grant program, it is important to complete the FAFSA.

About Howard University

Howard University is a private, federally chartered historically black university in Washington, D.C. It is categorized by the Carnegie Foundation as a research university with higher research activity and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
From its outset, Howard has been nonsectarian and open to people of all sexes and races. Howard offers more than 120 areas leading to undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees.

Howard has produced four Rhodes Scholars between 1986 and 2017. Between 1998 and 2018, Howard University produced two Marshall Scholar, eleven Truman Scholars, seventy Fulbright Scholars, a Schwarzman Scholar and twenty-two Pickering Fellows.

Howard produces the most black doctorate recipients of any university and is one of the world’s most prestigious destinations for professionals in health, science, engineering, art, law, and education.

The Frederick Douglass Scholarship Program

This scholarship was created to attract new Ph.D. students. Only those students who show a strong academic promise will be considered for this scholarship. On average, students must be at least 3.5 years old and enroll in one of Howard’s doctoral programs.

Applicants must also be able to show an interest in university education. The scholarship allows students to receive a total of $15,000 per year for a maximum of five years. Thus, the applicant could receive a total of $75,000 from this scholarship.

In addition to the scholarship, an additional US $1,000 will be awarded each year to support the student’s research. Each recipient receives a full study discount. Recipients also receive faculty supervision and specific activities to improve their teaching.

All students must be present full time.

Scholarship Transfer Program

Howard University recognizes that the first choice of a college student sometimes does not work. To attract talented students interested in transferring from other universities, they developed the Howard University Transfer Scholarship.

These scholarships are offered on a competitive basis, and each year a limited number of scholarships are awarded to transferred students. In fact, students must hold at least 3.25 and have at least 30 hours for the referral.

Recipients of this award receive a $ 10,000 grant for the first semester in which they are registered with Howard. The scholarship is not renewable.

Trustee Scholarships

Howard University offers a number of scholarships that are awarded solely for their merit. To participate in these scholarships, students must have an average of at least 3.0%, be registered full-time with Howard and need financial resources.

Some of these awards are available at all Howard University colleges and schools. To apply, students must go to their school or college to determine the application process, selection, and other required information.
