The Gate City Bar Association was founded in 1948. It is the oldest association of African Bar associations in the state of Georgia. The Gate City Bar Association was organized by ten African-American lawyers to ensure the participation of a professional association of African-American lawyers in education, society, and society.

Eligibility for Scholarship
To qualify, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements:
- Students of minority laws who are enrolled in Georgia Law School or resident in Georgia are enrolled at a law school located outside of the state
- First-semester students are not eligible
- Earlier beneficiaries are not eligible
- Previous applicants who fulfill the requirement but have not yet been selected will be invited to apply
