Fulbright U.S. Scholar Israel Postdoctoral Fellowship

The United States-Israel Educational Foundation (USIEF) is pleased to announce the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Israel Postdoctoral Fellowship. The unique and prestigious grants are open to researchers in all academic disciplines and support programs of work for up to 20 months (two academic years). The Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise, engage with the host community.The USIEF will award eight grants by providing them a stipend of up to $40,000 ($20,000 per academic year for two years).

The United States-Israel Educational Foundation (USIEF) is responsible for the administration of Israel’s participation in the American Fulbright Academic Program. Established in 1956 through an agreement between the governments of the United States and Israel, the program has seen more than 1,200 U.S. citizens and more than 1,500 Israeli citizens take part in their prestigious exchange programs.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for a Fulbright fellowship beginning in 2018:

  • Candidates must have received their Ph.D./doctoral degrees no earlier than April 2015in order to remain eligible as a postdoctoral researcher for the duration of the Fellowship. Applicants must receive their Ph.D. no later than June 2018.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
  • Applicants may be hosted by any accredited institution of higher education or research center in Israel.
  • Candidates must be planning to begin a period of postdoctoral research at an accredited institution of higher education in Israel during the course of the 2018-19 academic year.
  • Holders of tenure track positions are not eligible to apply.
  • Individuals who have already begun postdoctoral research activities in Israel prior to the application date are not eligible.

Financial Aid and Award Money:

  • The United States-Israel Educational Foundation (USIEF) plans to award eight grants to U.S. postdoctoral scholars who seek to pursue research at Israeli institutions of higher education.
  • The fellows will receive a USIEF stipend of up to $40,000 ($20,000 per academic year for two years), payable in U.S. dollars. In addition, each grantee should receive from his/her host institution a grant no smaller than its own standard postdoctoral award.
  • Benefits may include a monthly base stipend, living and housing allowances, and additional one-time allowances.
  • Benefits may vary based on a scholar’s current academic rank (or professional equivalent), the city of placement, the type of award (teaching, teaching/research, or research), and the number of and duration of stay of accompanying dependents.
  • During their grant period, Fulbright U.S. Scholars in the Middle East and North Africa region may apply for a short-term regional travel grant (five to 14 days) for participation in a variety of activities including faculty and student lectures, graduate or faculty seminars, curriculum development, public lectures, panel presentations, needs assessment, conferences, or some combination thereof. Applicants who apply for the Flex award are ineligible for the Regional Travel Program.
