ABOUT CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP:

The Chevening Scholarship is an international scholarship scheme which enables students with leadership qualities from 144 countries and territories to undertake postgraduate study or courses in universities in the United Kingdom. Funding for the scheme comes from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Chevening is the UK government’s international awards programme aimed at developing global leaders since 1983.

Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.

Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP FOR GAMBIAN STUDENTS:

Chevening Scholarships in The Gambia are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to pursue a one-year Master’s degree programme at any UK university. They provide a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

Every year the British Embassy sends Gambian students to the UK for a fully funded masters degree programme at a university of their choice.  This year the British Embassy Banjul will be increasing the number of scholarships on offer.

Scholarships are awarded to exceptional candidates with future leadership potential.

A Chevening award offers financial support along with the opportunity of becoming part of the highly regarded and influential Chevening global network.
Applicants from The Gambia can choose any course of study, but they particularly welcome applications in the following fields:

• Agricultural sciences
• Governance
• Human rights
• Justice
• Tourism

LEVEL OF STUDY:

The scholarship is available to Gambians to pursue a masters degree in any field of their  choice in any UK university

FIELD OF STUDY:

Applicants from Gambia are allowed to choose any course of study in any UK university

HOST NATIONALITY:

This scholarship is to be taken in the UK

ELIGIBLE NATIONALITY:

This chevening scholarship is primarily for Gambian students to study in UK

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:

students on Cheveninig scholarship from GAMBIA  will have the following benefits:

  • university tuition fees
  • a monthly stipend
  • travel costs to and from the UK
  • an arrival allowance
  • a homeward departure allowance
  • the cost of one visa application
  • a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

Be a Gambian national and return to The Gambia after your studies

– Hold a degree that is equivalent to a 2:1 honours degree in the UK

– Have completed at least 2 years work experience

– Be able to meet the Chevening minimum English language requirement.

– Receive an unconditional offer from a UK university

HOW TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP:

If you applied before the deadline, but have not yet submitted your English language test results or your unconditional university offer, you must upload them to your application by 12 July 2018. Use the ‘upload application documents’ button above to upload them. Please note that only documents in PDF format can be uploaded and documents cannot be over 5MB in size.

If you are eventually conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, it is essential that you have submitted these documents in order to remain in the process.

If you applied for a 2018/2019 Chevening Scholarship you will receive email updates about your application status at each step of the selection process.
