The Carnegie School of Sport is offering one and two-year full-time PhD studentships to start in October 2017. UK/EU and Overseas students are eligible to apply for these studentships.

If applicant’s first language is not English, the university will require evidence that you have the necessary language skills to fulfil the requirements of the award. You will need to provide evidence of a minimum International English Language Testing System Grade 6.5 (IELTS 6.5) with no individual sub-score below 6.0 or equivalent for all research awards.

Scholarship Award: The awards cover the standard UK stipend (£14,553 in 2017/18; pro-rata into 12 monthly payments and exempt from UK Income Tax and National Insurance) and tuition fees (EU/UK fees only).
Number of Scholarships: One two-year and a number of three-year full-time PhD studentships in Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure are available.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship.

The quality of the Carnegie School of Sports research is evident in the outstanding results achieved in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, where we ranked 2nd nationally when accounting for both research quality and the number of contributing staff (Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism).
Nationality: UK/EU and Overseas students are eligible to apply for these studentships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have qualifications, expertise and experience relevant to undertaking study for a PhD.
English language Requirements: If your first language is not English, we will require evidence that you have the necessary language skills to fulfil the requirements of the award. You will need to provide evidence of a minimum International English Language Testing System Grade 6.5 (IELTS 6.5) with no individual sub-score below 6.0 or equivalent for all research awards. For entry in February 2017 and onwards we require evidence of a minimum International English Language Testing System Grade 7.0 (IELTS 7.0) with no individual sub-score below 6.5. If you have successfully completed a UK bachelors (first or 2.1) or UK masters degree, in the two years before entry, this will suffice for the English language requirements. If you completed your UK degree over two years ago you will still need to demonstrate your English Language by taking an IELTS text.
