Applications are invited for UAE Rosalynn Carter Fellowships by Al Jalila Foundation  for Mental Health Journalism Program for the academic year 2017-2018. Students from UAE are eligible to apply for these fellowships.

Al Jalila Foundation in partnership with The Carter Center selects journalists annually to receive the mental health journalism fellowship with the aim to bring awareness, reduce stigma and end discrimination against those with mental illness within the UAE.

Al Jalila Foundation promotes medical education and research by investing in the UAE’s medical treatment capabilities; it provides scholarships to nurture a home-grown generation of medical professionals and supports ground-breaking research that addresses health challenges prevalent in the region.

Course Level: This is one-year fellowship programme available for Journalists.

Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded for Mental Health Journalism Program.

Eligibility: Criteria & Application Requirements

Eligible applicants for a fellowship must:

  • Be a National or legal resident of United Arab Emirates (one does not need to relocate).
  • Bilingual (Arabic and English)
  • Have at least three years of professional experience in journalism (writing, reporting, editing, producing, and filmmaking). We welcome freelance and media outlet employed journalists. Please note we do not accept blogging or academic writing as professional journalism experience.
  • Must have an interest in mental health reporting, but no previous experience is required.
  • Submit a complete application with at least two recommendation letters – please see application form for further details.
  • Awarded fellows must attend a mandatory meeting in September at the beginning and end of the fellowship year in Atlanta, USA: (Flights funded by Al Jalila Foundation):
    First Meeting: 11-13 September 2017
    • Last Meeting: September 2018 dates to be announced when available.

Nationality: Students from UAE are eligible to apply for these fellowships.
