Minnesota Golden Gophers placekicker Justin Juenemann may never view T-shirt cannons the same way again after he was surprised by head coach P.J. Fleck on Wednesday.
Fleck introduced members of the team to Kyle, a young man who is a patient at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, during what appeared to be a standard meeting.
Kyle explained he remembered seeing Juenemann “a lot” at the hospital. Fleck then directed Kyle to use a T-shirt cannon to deliver more than an article of clothing to his favorite player.
Juenemann, who has yet to see in-game action for Minnesota, completed the reception, but it took him a few seconds to notice the message on the shirt:
“Justin, congrats on earning a scholarship!”
Following a celebration with his teammates, Juenemann was praised by his coach.
“I’ve never seen anybody serve and give more than that guy, who is not a star player, who hasn’t played, where his face is recognizable,” Fleck said in front of his team.
“He could easily just not do it and nobody would ever say anything. And all he does is continue to keep his oar in his water, live that holistic life academically, athletically, socially and spiritually.”
The season hasn’t even started yet, but Juenemann is already a big winner.
