The U.S. Court of Appeals is inviting applications for the Fourth Circuit is awarding opportunities for the “Fourth Circuit Essay Contest”. The essay contest is open to high school students (grades 9 through 12), the contest offers students an opportunity to learn about the Constitution and Bill of Rights and a chance to win cash prizes. The each winner will get scholarship awards up to $4,500.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is one of twelve regional appellate courts within the federal judicial system. The court hears appeals from the nine federal district courts in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina and from federal administrative agencies.

Eligibility:

In order to participate in the scholarship contest, entrants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be high school students
  • Students must (grades 9 through 12) in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

How to Apply:

  • The recipient of the essay contest must write an essay and essay limited to 1000 words, excluding footnotes, endnotes, or bibliographies, in your essay you should answer the following question which is given below
  1. What does access to justice mean to you and how do the Constitution and Bill of Rights enable this access?

Submitting Details:

You can your entry form and essay together but as separate attachments to essaycontest-at-ca4.uscourts.gov

 

Financial Aid and Award Money:

  • First Place Prize: $2,000
  • Second Place Prize: $1,500
  • Third Place Prize: $1,000

Application Deadline: 

Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017.
