Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) invites applications for the Risam PhD Scholarship Programme 2017. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and research proposals must be aligned with CIT’s Research Prioritisation Thematic areas.
The Irish word Rísam, meaning “to strive or achieve”, underlines the purpose of this scholarship programme which is to promote high-end research directed towards the generation of new knowledge or original applications of existing knowledge.
Cork Institute of Technology, formerly the Regional Technical College, Cork, is an Institute of Technology in Ireland, located in Cork, Ireland opened in 1973.

Study Subject: The Rísam Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and research proposals must be aligned with CIT’s Research Prioritisation Thematic areas: Information & Communications Technology, Maritime, Energy & Sustainable Environment, Life Sciences & Wellbeing, Health & Exercise, Photonics, Creative Arts & Multimedia, Education & Learning and Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Innovation.
Scholarship Award: A number of full scholarships are being awarded in 2017 for a period of up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress assessed through successful completion of the annual assessment report. The scholarship comprises maintenance (€12000) +fee (€4,455) + travel and other minor expenses (up to €2000 subject to budget availability).
Number of Scholarships: There are a number of scholarships available.
Scholarship can be taken in Ireland
- Applicants must register as a full-time postgraduate research student of CIT.
- Students must be registered on the CIT doctoral register.
- Applicants must not be in receipt of another grant or significant source of income over the period of the scholarship.
- Students will be required to complete a Revenue Commissioner’s “Scholarship Exemption Declaration” to avail of an exemption from income tax on the scholarship payments. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure they remain compliant with the terms of this tax exemption.
Nationality: Applicants from Ireland are eligible to apply.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have completed masters degree.
