The ANU Centre for European Studies (ANUCES) is happy to accept applications for the 2017 ANU Jean Monnet Geographical Visiting Fellowship in Australia, Hurry now and apply.

The Australian National University (ANU) is a national research university located in Canberra, the capital of Australia. Its main campus in Acton encompasses seven teaching and research colleges, in addition to several national academies and institutes.

Course Level: This is a visiting fellowship programme.

Study Subject: Fellowship is awarded in the field of all available empirical work related to the real-world impact of geographical indications.

Scholarship Award: Fellowships will cover the following:

  • Funds are available for a 3-month Visiting Fellowship. These funds (of up to $A15,000) would cover travel to/from Canberra, accommodation and living expenses and some travel to State capitals to meet with agricultural policy advisers. An option of a further (unfunded) period as an official visitor at ANUCES is possible during which time the person can undertake any research project with a link to issues of concern/relevance to the EU.

Scholarship can be taken in Australia

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • ANUCES is seeking a Visiting Fellow to undertake this core work. The position would particularly suit a post-graduate, post-doctoral or recently retired researcher with skills to identify and assess empirical materials related to the impact of GIs. Ideally, this work will be undertaken between November 2017 and March 2018.

  • The Project’s main outputs will be:
  • A Background Paper collating and assessing existing knowledge on GIs.
  • An Academic Workshop in Canberra, with participation from academics from a range of disciplines and of policymakers from agriculture departments.
  • A Policy Forum in Canberra directed to disseminating the workshop results to a broader range of policymakers and trade negotiators.
  • An ANUCES website for dissemination and information sharing.
  • An Academic Workshop in Berlin directed to set forth an agenda for priority research necessary to increase the effectiveness of geographical indications policy.
